March 4, 1998 The Supreme Court Judges unanimously decided to allow police to enter your home without knocking, as long as the police have a warrant -- even if the police do damage to your home. In the past the police could enter without knocking if they had a ``reasonable suspicion'' that knocking and announcing themselves would be dangerous or harm the investigation. William Rehnquist and his other lawyer-judges decided, ``whether such a reasonable suspicion exists depends in no way on whether police must destroy property in order to enter.'' The case involved 45 officers who arrived early in the morning and announced over a loudspeaker that they had a search warrant. Without waiting for a response, one officer broke a garage window and began waving a gun through the window. Supreme Court judges found this police approach "reasonable." March 4, 1998 The Supreme Court unanimously decided America's corporations may miss deadlines for filing their uses of hazardous chemicals reports even when they possibly damage your life and well being. You cannot sue or recover legal costs, even if you are potentially in harms way. As long as a company is quick footed and gets their report in, albeit late, Justice Antonin Scalia said a claim for your legal costs would not give you standing to sue.
