The End of the Two Party System in America is close. The ending is coming because both USA Parties and most Republican and democrat or democratic politicians are for sale to the highest bidder. Both Parties have politicians who will lie and do anything to get elected. After Republican and democrat or democratic politicians get elected they use tax payer money to support the special interest groups who helped them get elected. The only thing they can do in a bipartisan way is to pass laws allowing party politicians to escape accountability for their acts. Campaign finance reforms reform is something Common Cause tries to attain through laws passed by the very politicians who depend on getting money from special interest groups.
Common Cause wastes its time on bipartisan campaign reformCommon Cause recognizes that Americans fail to trust both parties, because both parties are for sale
to the highest bidder. But, their attempts at bipartisan campaign reform will not work -- except for a short time -- just as past attempts at bipartisan campaign reform have failed. Republican and Democratic politicians are always able to come together, in a bipartisan way, to figure out ways to stop the effect of any
campaign refinance law.
Money in Politics
Common Cause, as well as most intelligent voters (the ones who sway elections) realize, as Common Cause states, "the dominating influence of wealthy special interests in the funding of campaigns has eroded public trust in our political system and discouraged political participation. In a system that gives undue access to lawmakers and influence on legislation to those who contribute large amounts to campaigns, most citizens believe their voice is not being heard. On a whole range of issues - environment, healthcare, taxes - we see corporations and wealthy individuals benefiting at the expense of all Americans."
Common Cause admits it knows that "campaign finance reforms that will help bring government back to the people by reducing the influence of wealthy special interests, expanding public funding of campaigns and encouraging campaigns to seek funding from a broader base of small contributors."
But, Common Cause is, itself, made up of past politicians from each of the two parties. It admits it was "the leading advocate in the successful fight for public financing of presidential campaigns," but fails to admit that this scheme did nothing to reduce the money Republican and Democrat politicians got from special interest groups. In fact, the bipartisan law that Republicans and Democrats passed, simply allowed them to get free taxpayer campaign funds based upon how much special interest money they receive. The public financing of congressional campaigns has increased the benefit of special interest "donations" to politicians for many years.
Common Cause said they got a "ban soft money, the
huge, unlimited campaign contributions that were
undermining the federal system of public financing and
contribution limits." The truth is that
the 2002, "Bipartisan Campaign
Reform Act was enacted" but the bipartisan FEC
commission fought it in the court, and after losing in
the court, the FEC read the law to mean that the huge
special interest group campaign donations were still
acceptable, but in other ways. Republican and Democrat
FEC members agreed that huge donations would be
acceptable at the Party level.
