By 2005 it was clear that most Americans knew that politicians lied. Some
yellow dog Democrats still tended to believe that only Republican politicians
lied, even though they would admit their own politicians occasionally misspoke.
Many died in the wool Republicans felt the same way about Democrat politicians.
But it was clear that the minority of thinking voters, those who swayed
elections, knew that neither party was trustworthy.
Thinking independent voters (not yellow dog democrats or died-in-the
wool republicans) already knew, even by 2000, that
both parties were for
sale to the highest bidder, both parties had politicians who would lie and do anything to get
elected, and both parties politicians used American taxpayer money to reward
the special interest groups that gave them financial and other support to
get elected. Republicans could still be happy that Independent voters had not
yet reached the point where they would reject both parties.
Independent voters still believed
voting for a
third party "wasted" their votes.
The traditional American media supported the notion that a two party system was
great for Americans. Independent voters -- who
control the outcome of elections -- tended to vote for the least worst
candidate from the two major parties. When the Democrat Party was clearly seen as spreading hate
and lies, writing fake indictments and dividing America, the independent voters
felt they had no option but to vote Republican.
Politicians of both parties lied, as shown by the infamous elder
Bush's vow, "Read my lips, no new taxes". Everyone knew
Clinton was a liar, and even the blindly faithful Democrat voters, unable to
ignore the lies in this case, began to claim
Clinton had to lie.
By 2005 the intelligent voters (remember, those who sway elections) were turned
off by political corruption.
While bipartisan groups like Common Cause
wasted its time on bipartisan campaign reform, politicians routinely figured
out ways to avoid the consequences of the laws they passed -- which always
seemed to have some type of loophole.
Politicians
in 1999 willingly risked a new depression to payoff their corporate
contributors. Americans knew that
Politicians take huge amounts of money to keep their jobs. The party
faithful knew it was OK for their party to take as much money as possible.
Republican faithful insisted that people had a constitutional right to give
Republican politicians money. The Democrat yellow dogs claimed they needed
all they could get, even if they had to take money from Buddhist nuns or hate
mongers, because they had to keep up with the Republicans. Johnny Chung, a
visitor to Bill Clinton's White House, went
to jail for his illegal campaign contributions, but the money grabbing
politicians involved thrived. Bill Clinton remained President and his vice
president, Al Gore ran for presidency, strongly depending on the lack of
morality among knee jerk Democrats.
