Dick's Guide to Politicians and useless Hurricane Investigations

POLITICS -- Politicians cannot be trusted to investigate Hurricane Rita and Hurricane Katrina problems caused by Republican and Democrat politicians. (political issues, International politics, USA politics, federal and state politics, politicians, special interest groups, corruption and political science)

Political issues, International politics, USA politics, federal and state politics are often driven by what is in the best interest of  Democratic and Republican politicians.  But, Political Science, as taught in Universities, often ignores the fact that politicians always act to meet their own personal goals.  Of course, this alone is not a surprise.  Most people act based on what is best for themselves.  What makes politicians different is that, unlike average citizens, the Democrat and Republican politicians can make laws which prevent them from being accountable for doing what would normally be illegal, and they routinely investigate themselves when they get caught in their own wrong doings.

In the case of 2005's Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, many deaths and much devastation was caused by politicians.  Politicians provided money to improve New Orleans levees, but other politicians chose to use the money for a bridge.  Politicians routinely spent money on pork projects, rather than on the needs of USA citizens.  Politicians ignored the wisdom of scientists and engineers, in order to spend tax money for their own personal needs.  Politicians took money from Real Estate interest groups and then used taxpayer money to underwrite flood insurance.  This caused people to live in areas in danger of being destroyed by hurricanes.

President Bush started a Republican led investigation into what went wrong with Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita.  Democrats demanded a so-called "independent" investigation of what went wrong before, during and after Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. The problem with the "INDEPENDENT" commission proposed by Democrats is that the proposed "INDEPENDENT" commission was only another "BIPARTISAN" one.  Bipartisan commissions ignore the failures of politicians to do the right thing.  Bipartisan commissions will not point out what voters and politicians need to do to improve America.  For example, most Americans who follow politics know that the Intelligence failures related to 9/11 were largely caused by politicians who lessened the strength of America's intelligence by reducing funding, creating law-enforcement intelligence stovepipes and demanding politically pure foreign spies.  Of course, voters were also at fault for voting for politicians belonging to parties that are for sale to the highest bidder, as were the special interest people who provided money to the two parties politicians.  Predictably, the "INDEPENDENT" Commission that reviewed 9/11 had no recommendations to improve the behavior of politicians, to point out the politician mistakes that led to 9/11 and to inform voters on ways to end the power of special interest money. This failure was because the so-called "INDEPENDENT" commission was not independent but only bipartisan. 

Commissions that are just bipartisan cover up the poor behavior of politicians of the two parties.  They cover up the role of their big money special interests.  We need a NON-POLITICAL COMMISSION that excludes politicians and party devotees.  Americans already know, in the case of Katrina, that decisions and failure to act by past and current politicians contributed greatly to the Katrina destruction.  A NON-POLITICAL Commission is more likely to point out those problems caused by short-sighted, pork-hungry politicians and the voters who elect them.  A non political commission would consist of engineers and scientists, including political scientists.

The Problem with trusting politicians, past and present.

It might be in your best interest to take a bribe from someone to not do what you should do for your employer.  But, this would be illegal, for you.  Politicians, on the other hand, routinely accept money (called "political contributions" rather than "bribes") from special interest groups to do what's best for the group, rather than the American people.   (See, for example, Dicks Guide to Politicians and how politicians encourage the  NEA teacher's union to prevent good education and Teachers Unions' PAC's Gave $5.2 Million to politicians in the '89-'90 Elections)  Thus, while the USA Constitution states that the people are to be sovereign,  the politicians are more often driven by the special interest groups who pay them, and the sovereign control of the USA and -- to a lesser extent -- the rest of the World, lays in the hands of special interest groups and elected officials, at both the federal, state and local level, all serving their own special interest.

Very often politicians and special interest groups have a synergistic relationship (see, for example ELECTED POLITICIANS TAKE MONEY AND RETURN FAVORS).   Politicians need money to remain politicians, and Special Interest groups have money to buy action from the politicians.  Only if a politician no longer needs to be re-elected as, for example a second term President, can a politician become more independent of interest groups and pursue alternative personal interests, like building a reputation, saving a reputation (see President William Clinton's character and future) or getting a good high paying job after politics as, for example, a lobbyist.     

Politicians taking money from special interest groups and then introducing legislation to help these special interests, are usually on a slippery slope leading to outright corruption.  (See Elected Politicians Take Huge Amounts of Money to help get themselves re-elected.) The politicians in the USA have had a history of corrupt behavior (see Political scandals in America) and will say and do almost anything to get elected.  (See, for example, Clinton had to lie.  Here's why! and Bush and "Read my lips, no new taxes".

The corruption in both political parties in the USA, Democrat and Republican, had reached such a level that by 2005 it was clear that America's two-party system of democrat and republican politicians would end by 2012.

The democratic party is self-destructing,  In 2005, after New Orleans was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina, about one third of the middle class and poorer people who were evacuated to other states, chose to not return to the Democratic controlled New Orleans and Louisiana. By 2005 some professional democrats recognized the self-destruction was underway.  Some democrats felt Hillary Clinton could solve the Democratic Party probems, if she revitalized the party by running for President in 2008. 

The Democrat party's politicians and supporters insistence on spreading hate, making false remarks, ignoring the religious views of most Americans,  dividing America into classes of people (e.g. "rich vs. poor", "gays vs. straights, blacks vs. whites, men vs. women, "people vs. animals") and the democrat politicians instinct to attack other's proposals without making many of their own, made the politicians of the Democrat Party less than acceptable to most thinking voters.   The Democrat Party views many of these types of unacceptable behaviors as merely a legitimate means to "mobilize their base" and to attract less intelligent minority voters.  Democrats have no coherent foreign policy,   People, with all of the information sources now available, simply do not believe what they read in typical press reports or hear from typical democrat politicians. 

People, today can see the transparent attempts to attack Republican foreign policies, while having none of their own, to pretend that Republicans support the rich, while the democrats take all sorts of money from rich corporations, and reward these contributors with taxpayer dollars.   The Democrat Party has for many years tried to create new minorities by dividing groups, blacks vs. whites, poor vs. rich, Hispanics vs. Whites, Atheists vs. Christians and Jews, pro-abortionists against people of religion.  The minority groups to whom the Democrats played in the 21st Century were increasingly educated and upwardly mobile.  Minority groups began to see through the posturing of the Democrats, and how the Democrat programs meant to help them, often kept the minorities in poverty.
