Another Dick's Guide!

Democratic Party Self Destruction: Patrick Leahy, democrat Senator, attacks Bush and Harriet Miers.
 
Less than one hour after President Bush announced Harriet Miers as his Supreme Court nominee, Vermont Governor Patrick Leahy was on the attack.

The democrats are self-destructing.  Their insistence on spreading hate, making false remarks and attacking other's proposals without making many of their own, makes them less than acceptable to most thinking voters.  People, with all of the information sources now available, simply do not believe what they read in typical press reports or hear from typical democrat politicians, such as the attack Patrick Leahy made on Miers and Bush, only 52 minutes after Miers' selection.  What further hurts Democrats is their arrogant disregard for voter's intelligence.  Leahy and other Democratic politicians e.g. Barbara Boxer) after being dissatisfied with Miers nomination and using the media to push their view, reversed their opinions of Ms. Miers after Meirs decided to step down.  In Leahy's mind, the disappointing Ms. Miers now became Leahy's choice to heal the wounds of the nation.  "I've also urged the White House, here's a time to unite not divide." What makes this duplicity so hard for voters to accept, Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., is the ranking Democratic Party member on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Democrats spread distortions and hate about Supreme Court Justice nominees (like Harriet Miers) before President Bush even made her his 2005 selection of a nominee to replace Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court

Christopher Graff, a reporter for the notorious Associated Press, reported -- within an hour of Harriet Meir's nomination, that he was concerned about Miers because he did not know much about her, and she was "close" to President Bush. Leahy admitted "It is too early to reach any firm judgment about such an important nomination," but, "I do not know Ms. Miers well (an apparently new requirement for democrat senators to "advise and consent" to the president's nominee) and I did not meet her until recently, six months after she became the White House counsel,"   Leahy then made it clear his real concern was the he felt she had a  "reputation for being loyal to this president, whom she has a long history of serving as a close adviser and in working to advance his objectives."

Patrick Leahy then slandered the republican administration, saying "In an administration intent on accumulating executive power, Ms. Miers' views on - and role in - these issues will be important for the Senate to examine."   Because Leahy sees the republicans as evil accumulators of power, "It is important to know whether she would enter this key post with the judicial independence necessary when the Supreme Court considers issues of interest to this administration."

The demon fearing Leahy is, believe it or not,  the ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee.  He did support the nomination of John Roberts to be chief justice, apparently in order to save his minimal independent voter acceptability.  Now, he has taken the position that democrat politicians can only replace Sandra Day O'Connor with someone who would make decisions like Sandra Day O'Connors to fill her type of decision-making role on this "especially crucial seat on our nation's highest court."

Leahy use his opportunity to discuss with a  slap at President Bush aimed at further dividing America by saying,  "many will be surprised that the president did not pick a Hispanic woman from the many qualified Hispanics across the country recommended to the president."

Senator Leahy then went it to the all too typical democrat party ploy of demanding more and more information, a typical delay maneuver, by calling on the White House and Miers to ensure that the Senate Judiciary Committee had all possible information to decide on the nomination, with the determination of what "all" means to be provided by leftists democratic senators.

"The White House should provide us with the information we need to have a full picture of Ms. Miers qualifications and record, and we will expect her to answer the questions that tell us what kind of a justice she would be in this especially crucial seat on our nations highest court," said Leahy. 

While Leahy was the first democrat to lead the attack on Meiers, and use her nomination as a way to further created racial divisions in America, the truth about Harriet Miers was being provided, to anyone willing to listen.  Like Justice O'Connor, Harriet Miers blazed a trail for women as the first female leader of a prominent Texas law firm, the first woman president of the state bar of Texas and as the top lawyer to the president and the White House.

Let's all hope , but not expect that democrat leftists like Senators Leahy will place their duties to the nation above their own political beliefs and the political beliefs of their campaign contributors by using the Constitution itself and an open mind, rather than being intimidated by the inevitable pressure from the far-left groups that pay for their elections, and the maniacal demands of the democrat party's extremist leader, Howard Dean.
 

Thinking independent voters (not yellow dog democrats or died-in-the wool republicans) already knew, by 2000, that both parties are for sale to the highest bidder, both parties have politicians who will lie and do anything to get elected, and both parties politicians use American taxpayer money to reward the special interest groups that support them.  The quick attack by Leahy on Meirs showed that the Democrat Party still failed to understabnd their diminishing role in national politics.  See, for example, Why politicians cannot be trusted to investigate terrorist attacks and natural disasters.  Republicans can be happy that Independent voters have not yet reached the point where they  reject both parties.  These voters still largely believe voting for a third party "wastes" their votes.  Independent voters -- who control the outcome of elections -- tend to vote for the least worst candidate from the two major parties.  When one party is clearly seen as spreading hate and lies, writing fake indictments and dividing America with attacks on women, black and Hispanic presidential nominees, the independent voter has no option but to vote for the other party.
