Dick's Guide to How Democrats and the Democratic Party self-destruct.

Democratic Party Self Destruction: Chuck Schumer, the Democrat Senator from New York State, attacks President Bush and Supreme Court Nominee, Harriet Meirs.
Chuck Schumer, the Democrat Senator from New York State financially supported by extreme left wing groups, listened to his paying clients and immediately attacked President Bush and his 2005 Supreme Court Nominee, Harriet Miers, within hours of the Miers nomination.  In 2005 citizens of the USA had many  information sources, did not trust Republican or Democratic politicians, and understood media bias.  Intelligent voters no longer reacted when a partisan politician said, as Schumer did, that he "wanted a mainstream nominee," and that he felt "A very preliminary review shows nothing in her (Miers) record that indicates she wouldn't be." Of course, Schumer would make sure that, after interviewing her, Miers had faults.  He did.  After Harriet Miers visited Chuck Schumer, Chuck Schumer let the media know that he found her judicial qualifications lacking.  When Miers stepped down as the nominee, Schumer (unlike Democratic Party Senator Barbara Boxer, Schumer continued to go to the media to vent about Miers, saying "The trouble is, the more we learned about Harriet Miers .... the more it was clear that this was not the right job for her." Of course, when President Bush nominated a new candidate, Samual Alito, Schumer also found problems.

He followed the lead of Senator Patrick Leahy and demanded that any nominee of President Bush had to make decisions like Sandra Day O'Connor and be a "swing seat on the Supreme Court."  He also followed Leahy's lead in making it clear that the Democrats would use delaying tactics by demanding unlimited amounts of information.  Schumer said it would be extremely important for Miers to answer all questions completely and thoroughly, with democrat senators being the ones to decided when all questions were completely answered.  Average independent voters all know that Democrats had not only failed to demand past nominees answer all questions, but have gone so far as to demand the nominees of democrat presidents NOT be required to answer some questions.

Thinking independent voters (not yellow dog democrats or died-in-the wool republicans) already knew, by 2000, that both parties are for sale to the highest bidder, both parties have politicians who will lie and do anything to get elected, and both parties politicians use American taxpayer money to reward the special interest groups that support them.  See, for example, Why politicians cannot be trusted to investigate terrorist attacks and natural disasters.  Republicans can be happy that Independent voters have not yet reached the point where they  reject both parties.  These voters still largely believe voting for a third party "wastes" their votes.  Independent voters -- who control the outcome of elections -- tend to vote for the least worst candidate from the two major parties.  When one party is clearly seen as spreading hate and lies, writing fake indictments and dividing America with attacks on women, black and Hispanic presidential nominees, the independent voter has no option but to vote for the other party.
